June 2009
Wow, I’m just realizing how crappy of a job we have been doing keeping everyone up to date with the goings on here at Mass Casualty. Trust me, it’s not because we’ve been sitting on our asses playing WordMole on my Blackberry Storm or Resident Evil 5 on the 360. Actually, it’s quite the opposite…busy, busy bees here at the death hole. A lot has happened and is happening and since the new site is FINALLY up and looking good, I felt it was time for another update. Where to begin?
Well, the first book is out, as I hope you all are aware of because you’ve picked up a copy or ten. If not then go back to the Hungry for Stink section and buy away. Everyone seems to dig the book, as well as the Barely Rotten Girls calendar, and we’ve been honored by the awesome retailers who’ve agreed to give us some shelf space. We’ve had a few book signings that turned out really well and we’ve met some really cool people over the last few months. That is one of the coolest things about having done the book, it makes our paths cross these awesome indy artists (in the general sense of the word) and the folks who support the sort of stuff we do. We owe a huge thanks to all of you and an even larger thanks to those few hundred of you out there who have purchased the book as I write this.
There are a lot of people who talk about doing something that they dream of. Then there is an even smaller group who takes action and sees that thing through from concept to completion. Although there is a hell of a sense of accomplishment for getting the comic completed, that pales in comparison to the feeling you all have given us by investing in what we’ve done here. It is for you all that we are moving forward with becoming a part of the smallest group. The one where you choose to continue moving forward with your dream, even after you’ve looked up at the vast mountain of odds that are stacked against you and have already experienced the trails of making your dream come true. Issue #2 is underway as you read this and we plan on resuming the remaining photo shoots needed to finish the 2010 Barely Rotten Girls calendar.
In regards to Hungry for Stink Issue 2, we regret to say that Dallas Clifton will no longer be at the visual helm of this book. For various reasons, Sean and I decided that we would strive to take the book to the next level visually. We will announce the new artist once all the contracts are signed and his pencil is on the page on the second book. I can tell you this much, there will be a whole new look to Lividity, Stink and the gang, in addition to the Rotters in Issue 2. We have also heard you guys at the signings and conventions and will be using a more standard panel layout, similar to other comics you read. The meetings we have had with our new artist have both of us excited as hell about the potential for this second issue. This guy already has a couple of comics under his belt and his art is so good that I consider us lucky to have gotten him before he’s snatched up by a bigger publisher, which I’m certain he will be! He came highly recommended from Ronnie at Media Underground Comics and after seeing his work I know why.
So what to expect in issue 2? Well, things pick up right where issue 1 leaves off. You’ll get your first taste of Stink’s Mom and take a little tour at the Blissful Ignorance Nursing Home (Hilarious if I do say so myself) and then the proverbial shit hits the fan in Lividity, which will be the catalyst for some major ass kicking in the third issue. The book slowly moves the scales from the comedy to the action/horror side for the third issue. You’ll also get to see more of the Rotters and are introduced to Lividity’s public enemy numero uno!
For the BRG side of things, we have a couple more “scene” shots to knock out and then we’ll get the themed months shot for the new calendar. I’ll let your mind run wild for a Mass Casualty Christmas and Thanksgiving.
So what else? Well, we’ve started blogging a bit so make sure you follow that if you’re really bored. We will be in San Diego for this years comic book/pop culture Nirvana known as Comic Con. There’s like a three year wait to have a table there so we’ll be going as fans, as well as promoting the Mass Casualty dementia. We do plan on having another throw down release party for issue 2 and are in loose talks with the band, For the Wait about working with them on a visual compendium for their upcoming new album. We’re also stoked that No Room for Saints keep assuring us that they’re going to lay down a new song inspired by the sick shit we do here. With those bad mofo’s on board, it should be a murder-inducing masterpiece!
I think that’s enough to get you all caught up. I’ll be doing another update here to formally introduce our new artist soon, so if I left anything out I’ll add it then. Thanks for tuning in. Stay tuned for more news and … Stay HUNGRY!!
